Hanging by a thread in the AFC East

The Dolphins played an exceptional game against a very good San Diego Chargers. Once again the Fins relied on the passing game as Gus Ferrotte threw for 229 yards and 2 TD's to Chris Chambers for a 23-21 victory to make it 3 in a row. Chris Chambers has been on fire in the past two games with 4 touchdowns and over 350 yards. This win by the Dolphins put a serious damper on the Chargers playoff hopes as they can only obtain a spot in the AFC wildcard, and it keeps the Dolphins in the hunt by a small chance.

The Chargers made it close by scoring a touchdown with 8 seconds left to TE Antonio Gates but the Dolphins recovered the onside kick. Unfortunately the Patriots won their game so the Fins gained no ground.

Its great to see my team playing well, yet it is frustrating knowing that there is such a small chance that they will make it. THey have to rely on the Patriots losing 2 of the last 3 games and one of those games happens to be against the Patriots in the last game of the season.

They have had a number of losses that clearly should have been wins, 1. Against the patriots in Miami and the Jets at the Meadowlands. Both were huge games since they were in the AFC East and if they Dolphins had won both of those games they would be in first place right now. O well I suppose you cannot dwell on the past, it just makes me angry thats all because they are a talented squad. The only hope I have is the depleted squad that the patriots have on the field right now due to injury, I am just hoping for a miracle.

The Fins last 3 games are ones they certainly can win, The horrible Jets, then the sub par Titans and to finish the season they play the division leader Patriots.

Big 4th quarter puts the Dolphins in 2nd place

The Dolphins pulled off a miracle win over the Buffalo Bills 24-23 this Sunday. The Dolphins scored 21 points in the 4th quarter led by backup QB Sage Rosenfels and WR Chris Chambers. Chambers caught the game winning touchdown with 6 seconds left in the game with their final possesion, since it was 4th and goal. Chambers had 15 receptions for 238 yards. Who set Miami records for catches and yards receiving. Both totals were the highest in the NFL since 2002. The Dolphins threw for a team record 65 passes,Rosenfels 37 and Frerotte 28. Ferrotte left midway in the 3rd quarter with a concussion. Ricky williams and Ronnie Brown had mediocre rushing performances yet they each put a touchdown on the board.

Head coach of the Bills Mike Mularky stated this after the game “Shocked may not be the word with how we feel. We’re obviously disappointed with the outcome. No one knows how those players feel right now. We’re very disappointed. None of us should feel the way we do right now.”

As if they injury plagued dolphins werent hurting enough with LB Zach Thomas (ankle/hamstring), DT Keith Traylor (knee) and WR Marty Booker (calf) were inactive for Miami. DE Jason Taylor played much of the game with his right shoulder in a strap. He said he'll undergo an MRI exam Monday.

This win places the Dolphins in sole position of 2nd place in the AFC East. Unfortunately the Patriots beat the Jets, so the Dolphins couldn't gain as much ground as I might like but they took a step in the right direction. It makes me angry to see them there seeing as they lost a game to the Patriots and the Jets and a very close game to the Falcons that all seemed like wins, but obviously luck wasn't on their side.

The only way they can make the playoffs is to win out the rest of the season and have the Patriots lose 2 games, but that is a hard task to pull off seeing as there is 4 games left and they play a very good San Diego Chargers team next week

On another note, the Colts are making a serious run to become an undefeated team as they are 13-0. I would like to see them lose a game, even though I like Peyton Manning. I just want the 72' Dolphins record to stay intact as the last and only undefeted team in NFL history.

Just a tease

The Dolphins have managed to keep me on my toes in respect to this season's AFC East title. There is still a slight chance that they make the playoffs. They beat the Oakland Raiders 33-21 and both the Patriots and the Bills lost putting the Dolphins two games out of first place yet in a hole due to their 0-3 division record. It is a catch 22, I would love to see them make the playoffs but the odds are bleak and if they lose out it permits them a better draft pick, which hopefully means a new QB although Gus Ferrotte has played alright.

The defense is was the glue that held the Dolphins together. Jason Taylor had 3 of the teams 7 sacks including a big safety.

Gus Frerotte threw for 261 yards and two touchdowns and both RB's put together a good game combined. Together they ran for 140 yards and 2 TD's. This two RB format is working well and leaves both of them fresh. The week preceding the game LB Junior Seau announced he would have season ending knee surgery and that leaves their linebackers core a bit depleted with the loss of pro bowler Zach Thomas as well.

The Dolphins have a crucial matchup this week the Bills, if they lose this game you can pretty much kiss the season goodbye because they will have an 0-4 record in their division. Yet if they beat the Bills and win out their divisional games they can still have a chance

Dolphins not in detroit in 06'

Well the Dolphins pretty much buried any chance of making the playoffs by losing to the Cleveland Browns 22-0 dropping their record to 3-7. Cleveland's RB Reuben Droughns .set the tone of the game by scampering for a 75 yard run for a touchdown on the first play of the game and totalling a career high 166 yards Adding insult to injury, the Dolphins lost one of the centerpieces to their defense,Linebacker Zach Thomas in the 2nd quarter."This is one of the worst," Dolphins cornerback Sam Madison said. The Browns converted 7-of-16 third downs on the day; the Dolphins once again faltered in such a critical position by converting just 2-of-12.

Cleveland's defense held Miami to 67 yards passing and forced Dolphins coach Nick Saban to use an injured Gus Frerotte. The starting QB of the game Sage Rosenfels, played horribly going 5-10 for 14 yards and 2 interceptions.Frerotte didn't fare much better, going 4-of-18 for 53 yards. The only bright spot may have been Ricky Williams who ran for 83 yards on 13 carries.

Now the team has to focus on gelling and working towards next year, the only possible way for them to have any playoff chance is to win out the season and maybe overcome the Bills and the Patriots in the AFC East. I think they should just lose out and get a good draft pick.Next week the Dolphins go up against the Oakland Raiders who are coming off a big win against the Washington Redskins. Now the Dolphins are playing for pride and that seems to be about it.

Playoff Chances are quickly fading

The Dolphins took a painful loss this weekend to the New England Patriots 23-16 in a crucial AFC East matchup. They had a very good chance in taking a share of the division lead and instead fell short in the 4th quarter. They took the lead in the 4th quarter 16-15 and allowed the Patriots to march down the field with 2:59 left and gave up a touchdown in less than a minute. That left the Dolphins with the ball and 2 minutes left in the 4th. They made a valiant charge getting all the way to the 6 yard line once again with an opportunity to tie that game and the Patriots defense made a good stand in the last 4 downs to stop the Fins and force the ball to be turned over on downs.

Gus Ferrotte had a great performance going 25-47 and throwing for 360 yards and a touchdown. Ricky Williams had a poor performance rushing for 13 yards on 11 attempts. His inconsistent play has plagued the team as well as a couple other factors. Each game they seem to be in it all the way to the end but cant close out games.

This loss all but ends the Dolphins playoff chances. They would need to beat each of the teams in the AFC East to have any chance at all and also win some non conference games. Quite frankly with the way their games have been going it doesnt seem to be in the cards. Next week they have a game with the Browns at 1 pm, a team they very well should beat. Atleast the Dolphins arent in last in the AFC East, as the Jets also lost today but the Bills and Patriots won. I guess there is always next year, and there were obviously growing pains associated with a new coach and offensive coordinator. They held in it for a while, and if they want any chance in making they playoffs they have to turn up their game.

Fins take a hit to the Falcons

Sunday the Dolphins lost a close game to the Atlanta Falcons 17-10. The Dolphins were making a late 4th quarter charge when Jason Taylor sacked Michael Vick and forced the Falcons to punt from the 5 yard line.

The Fins made a charge and found themselves in the red zone and were poised to tie the game. There was less than 2 minutes left in the game and it was 3rd and 2 on the 8 yard line. Both Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams were lined up in the backfield. What they should've done was run the ball and go for the first down, or atleast have two running chances to get the first down.

Instead Nick Saban called a pass play and Gus Ferrotte threw and interception to end the game. The Dolphins were down right horrible at 3rd down conversions going 0-9. It is almost impossible to win games if you cant convert on 3rd down. The Falcons were 11-17 and came out victorious.

Ronnie Brown rushed for 67 yards for Miami, and Ricky Williams added 52 yards and a touchdown. But the Dolphins had a ball for less than 24 minutes, and they were shut out in the second half.

The Dolphins penalty woes once again plagued them as they had 7 for 60 yards including 3 false starts. Nick Saban needs to tighten the reigns on this team, being a bellicheck deciple it is hard to imagine the sloppiness that the Dolphins have exhibited this year.

The Dolphins are hanging by a thread in the AFC East. Both the Patriots and the Jets lost this week while the Bills had a bye week.It is imperative the Fins beat the Patriots this week. It is a hard task however, seeing as the Patriots are coming off an embarrassing loss to the Colts and QB Tom Brady challenged the teams character. The Fins are tied for 2nd in the AFC East but have lost AFC East games to both the Bills and Jets. Placing them in 3rd actually.

Staying afloat in the AFC east

The Dolphins remained in contention for the AFC east with a win on sunday over the New Orleans Saints 21-6. The Dolphins had a strong rushing attack. Ronnie Brown rushed for 106 yards and the only touchdown on 21 carries, while Ricky Williams made a statement rushing for 82 yards on 17 carries.Olindo Mare contributed 4 field goals to help seal the deal and Miami's stellar defense recorded 6 sacks, an interception and a safety.

This was a home game for the Saints, and due to Hurricane Katrina's wrath the game was played at LSU's Tiger Stadium. A homecoming for first year NFL coach Nick Saban led the Dolphins onto the field to a mixture of applause and some unfamiliar boos.

In AFC east news, the Patriots defeated the Bills in a inner conference matchup while the Jets had a bye week. The Fins took possesion of 2nd place with a 3-4 record. While the Patriots lead the league with a 4-3 record. This conference is still anybodys and the Dolphins have 2 very big matchup's in the next two weeks. They play a very tough team in the Atlanta Falcons on sunday and the following week they play the first place Patriots.

Dan Marino will be presented with his Hall of Fame ring during halftime ceremonies of next Sunday’s Dolphins-Falcons game at Dolphins Stadium, which starts at 1:00 p.m.
